New Sarepta Charity Hockey Tournament 2013

We are just 2 days away from the 4th Annual North Shore Ice Devils/Ninjas charity hockey tournament and I am getting pretty excited. As well as reffing the odd game I will be playing for the Puckheads as we chase down the B Side trophy.

This year we have a pretty exciting addition of a "Shoot To Win" for $25,000. Three tickets will be drawn and the shooters will aim to get the puck through the open space on the net from the far blue line. Simple!

So come one down to New Sarepta this weekend.

And in the meantime take a look at our tournament website, follow our team on Twitter, and check out some pictures from past years here and here.

These pucks from our sponsor MEG Energy are going to see a lot of use.

The trophy everyone is chasing

Update: Another great tourney in the books and a new championship team: The Rusty Nuts.

New Sarepta - Ice Ninjas / Ice Devils Hockey Tournament

This past weekend was the 3rd annual Ice Ninjas hockey tournament in New Sarepta.

The tournament is our regular league team fundraiser for a year end trip to a destination to play hockey. In the past we have done, Kelowna, Montreal and  Las Vegas. This year the team is heading to Boston in the end of April. But, alas, I will not be going as I am short on cash from fix-ups and the selling process of my condo (Go Buy It Already!). Still, I am a team player and cannot resist the chance to have some beers and strap on the blades.

Our  Ice Ninjas team didn't participate this year; a downside to our success as all the tourney spots got filled (better for fundraising). However, I was lucky enough to land on a team with a couple of great guys - Sweezey and Lehoux - and their buddies. We started off with a tough loss Friday night in a fast paced game but rebounded well the next day and had a decent enough showing. For me though, its mostly about getting the chance to hang out and goof off all day at the rink.

But first! Breakfast

I'm pretty much a stay at home defenceman; no shot, poor hands, only excels at waving at the ladies in the stands. You know, the guy every team covets.

Really not helping the cause as I feel shame in the sin bin.

One of the highlights of the day was the 50/50 shootout and hardest shot competition. Our charity, this year was the Stollery Childrens Hospital and we raised a couple hundred bucks for the good cause.
Remember, how I said, I have no shot and am a stay at home D-Man? My entry into the 50/50 absolutely proved it. My shot hit the post and didn't register and I got shut down by the goalie in the shootout.
The agony of the defeat!

I think that our team organizers did a great job the whole weekend but they really went above and beyond for the supper. They arranged a fantastic roast pig come with all the fixings.

The recipe for good times = a pinch of swine, some beers and a sprinkling of friends.

For the third straight year the Synergy Construction group won the A Division tourney.  Congratulations.

Thanks to all the teams and spectators that came out. I know our whole team appreciates it.
I'm already looking forward to next year.

My Birthday in New Sarepta

The clock has just rolled past midnight and it is now March 26th 2011. I am officially 32 years old.

I plan to celebrate my birthday by playing hockey at my rec team's annual fundraising tournament.  The tourney actually started tonight as we played our first game at 6PM. We lost 3-2 in the final minutes but it was a good game all the way through. Immediately after the loss, I donned the reffing outfit and Mitzy and I reffed the next game, and then Dave and I reffed the game after.  I was surprised that my legs held out after 3 hours on the ice, especially with our rec team playing last night at 10:15pm. I guess a couple cold beer stashed in the penalty box helped.

So now I am home and recouping/stockloading for tomorrows games with a 4 egg Denver omelet. We are scheduled to play out at New Sarepta at 8 and 10:30 tomorrow morning, plus I'll be reffing the game in between.  But seriously, I'm pumped.

If you are out and about on March 26th and looking for fun head out to the
New Sarepta Agriplex to watch some fun rec-hockey. We have some great games planned where anything can happen ( I called a penalty shot tonight for little to no reason). Additionally you can buy a ticket for some really cool draws like a signed Taylor Hall jersey or a signed Frant Fuhr mask.

Plus you can potentially watch me fall down on my ass in complete exhaustion by noon. Washed up at 32 and can't stay awake past 1PM.
