Swimming Lessons

Chrissy wanted to start Sophia early with swimming lessons. One of the early lessons I have learned is that if "Mom" wants to do something it is in everybody's best interest to do that....so, Sophia is in swimming lessons.

I thought she was a little young but according to the course offering through the Edmonton rec-facilities she was capable, "Starfish is the entry level with a focus on orientation to water, buoyancy, movement, entries. (child must be able to hold their head up)".

For the last couple of Tuesday's we have been heading off to our Clareview Recreation Centre for Starfish swimming lessons.

Sophia takes to the water really well. She doesn't get upset or scared and is now even starting to splash around a little bit. It helps that she has her mothers buoyancy as opposed to the lead-lined bones of her father.

She doesn't even mind getting her head dunked. Pro-tip from Chrissy blow air in the baby's face right before dunking. They will instinctively take a big gulp of air.

Chrissy's parents have come to watch a couple of the lessons and we often sit and visit in the lobby with them afterwards. Sophia has started picking up new tricks like trying to eat peoples faces. In the picture below Baba is getting sized up.

Being in the pool really seems to take it out of her and often she falls asleep before we even leave the parking lot. That works for us, as we can take long luxurious car-trips through the Dairy Queen drive through.

Summer and Fall 2015

I just finished shoveling snow/ So,  I guess this as good as any time to look back in pictures on the summer and fall of 2015.

As it should, summer starts with the garden...and includes a pirate party when the leaves turn brown!?

Liam and the Summer of Soccer

My nephew Liam is pretty wicked little soccer player. As he lives a province away I don't get to see him as much as I would like but everytime I do we kick a ball around. It used to be that I could dominate him one-on-one in the backyard but those days are now gone. The kid has got skills...thankfully(?) I still have an enormous weight advantage to 'lean in' on him and keep the games relatively even.

Earlier in the summer Chrissy and I took in ones of his games during the Saskatoon World Cup. Liam is #11.

His team didn't do so well but this fan of his didn't seem to mind.

Later in the Summer Liam and Stephanie came to Edmonton to watch the bronze medal game of the FIFA Womens World Cup.

Chrissy and I joined them to watch the highly competitive game which England won 1-0 over Germany in overtime.

We headed back to our house after the game and of course continued with soccer. However, this time I showed off my prowess beating Liam in FIFA 2015 on the Xbox. This could be my last bastion in maintaining dominance in soccer over the kid :)

Hockey Tournament in Nashville

The whole reason for our trip to Nashville was for me to play some rec-hockey.

Like usual we brought two teams down from Edmonton: The Ice Devils and the Ice Ninjas. I play on the crappier of the two teams: The Ice Ninjas.

We ended up winning a medal in the tourney beating the exact same team twice (our only 2 wins of the weekend). We're big deals!

Not bad considering the life we lived in "Smashville"
